Painting depicting a young woman in a ruffled long white and pink floral dress with hat reading from a book in her lap beside a parasol under the shade of a tree while a young male suitor lays in the grass on his stomach, hand resting under chin watching her and listening attentively. Blue rowboat docked on shore near water. Framed 26.8" x 36.75". Unframed 20" x 30". Label on verso from Ken Allen Art & Antiques, Hendersonville, North Carolina. Provenance: Sotheby's, New York: Arcade 19th Century and Old Master Paintings, July 18, 1996 as Lot 456 whereby acquired by Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, Atlanta, Georgia.
