A signature three-piece suit worn by Bruce Dern as Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby (Paramount, 1974). The custom-made three-piece suit is constructed out of a grey, brown, and blue herringbone material. The coat has notched lapels, two lower slash pockets, and two-button front closure. Internal dry cleaning label and is stamped “Paramount Wardrobe." The matching vest has four slash pockets and six brown button front closure, and the matching pants have a single pleat at the front and no cuff. Tailor labels typed "Astaire N2 40 W 34 S 31818- COG" are present in the vest and jacket. The pants are inscribed on the inner waistline “Para From Gatsby.” The coat's hemline and cuff have been shortened, and the vest lapel was removed for use in subsequent production. Costume design by Theoni V. Aldredge. Dern wears the suit when his character, Tom Buchanan, and Nick Carraway, played by Sam Waterston, are at the auto repair shop when picking up Myrtle Wilson, played by Karen Black, and also while partying at Tom's apartment in Manhattan. The film won two Academy Awards in 1975, for Costume Design (Aldredge) and for Best Music. The Great Gatsby is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel of the same name. The male costumes were made by Ralph Lauren, and the female costumes by Barbara Matera LTD. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a copy of the film. Categories: Bruce Dern
