Silk, chenille, paint, and metallic thread embroidery of The Washington Family , dated 1841 , wrought by Adeline Wolf at Mt. Carmel Academy , 15" x 18". This important girlhood needlework is based on the iconic painting completed by Edward Savage in 1790. It depicts George and Martha seated at a table surrounded by two grandchildren and a black servant. Provenance: Greenwood Book Shop, Wilmington, Delaware, 1949.
