Grain-painted Document Storage Box, possibly New Jersey, c. 1865, the lid and all four sides with grain painting, the front with black-painted inscription "T.P. HOWELL & CO./From August 1st 1865/to January 1st 1867.," ht. 12 1/2, wd. 22 3/4, dp. 12 1/2 in. Note: T.P. Howell & Co. was a leather goods manufactory in Newark, New Jersey, that made saddles and knapsacks for the Union Army during the Civil War.
