Elnathan Taber Patent Timepiece or "Banjo" Clock with Alarm, Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1820, the mahogany patent timepiece form with roman numeral painted iron dial faintly inscribed E. Taber/Roxbury , barbed steel hands and a straight pointer for the alarm, a bell above sounds as the alarm releases, alarm is weight powered and wound by a pull-cord through the case head just below the 7 , half round frames enclose reverse-paintings on glass, the throat glass flanked by brass side ornaments, a gold leaf classical urn and foliage, the box glass with an eagle and Federal shield in gold against a green ground with gold leaf and ivory-colored border, eight-day time and alarm movement with three fillister head screws for case attachment, recoil escapement and side-mounted "escape wheel and pallet" alarm mechanism with lead weight descending in a side channel and the main movement powered by an iron weight and regulated by a pendulum, ht. 34 in.
