British School, 19th century. "Woman Plucking Fowls", oil on wood board, signed lower right "E. Cole". Genre figural painting depicting a woman, her child, and dog seated in an interior, the woman on a stool wearing red coat over green dress and plucking a chicken resting on her lap, her daughter and large brown dog watching at her right, the dark scene set with an open wooden door at left over stone stairs on a dirt floor with a simmering fire at right below clothes hanging to dry. Period paper label to verso inscribed "Bought by W. Gates from her Mother's collection at her death, July 1868" below "206 'Woman Plucking Fowls' Cole". Framed approximately 12.25" x 16.25". Unframed approximately 8" x 12".
