American, mid to late 19th century. A small Aesthetic Movement lacquered bookcase or cabinet, with two turned and fluted columns with gilt metal Corinthian capitals, supporting a shaped overhanging top with a gilt metal beaded border above a foliated marquetry inlaid frieze, with a glass door with a beaded gilt metal border, with banded inlay and marquetry inlaid spandrels, opening to reveal two shelves, the top reading "SACRED" in gold, and the bottom reading "COMIC/SENTIMENTAL", above a conforming base with a gilt metal beaded border, shaped apron, patera blocks, and turned feet. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 44", width 25", depth 17".
