Provenance: Ex-collection of Robert Lang, New York. Literature: Everett U. Crosby, EASTMAN JOHNSON AT NANTUCKET: HIS PAINTINGS AND SKETCHES OF NANTUCKET PEOPLE AND SCENES (privately published; Nantucket, Massachusetts), 1944, number C52. N.B. The view depicted is probably the interior of the Round Top windmill, which was dismantled in 1873. This work will be included in Dr. Patricia Hill's forthcoming catalogue raisonn} of the works of Eastman Johnson.
