Attributed to the Artist Known as the Puffy Sleeve Artist active c. 1830 Miniature Silhouette Portrait of a Woman Wearing a Blue Dress and Holding a Book. Unsigned. Hollow-cut profile head and watercolor two-thirds frontal posture portrait on paper, the figure is wearing a comb in her hair, a blue dress, a sheer embroidered fichu, and a black beaded necklace, sight size 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 in., in a molded giltwood frame with rope inset. Condition: Subtle toning. Note: A pencil inscription on the back reads "Mrs. Bates had similar sil./ her Great Aunt/ date 1832 she said/A.E.S. 1924."
