Pair of Embroidered Silk Wedding Slippers, Massachusetts, c. 1773, linen canvas uppers covered in woven gold silk fabric, embroidered with multicolored silk threads in a floral design, leather soles, lg. 9 1/2 in. Note: These slippers were worn by Ester May Hinkley (b. 1754, Dedham, Massachusetts, d. October 24, 1817, Barnstable, Massachusetts), on the day of her marriage to Ebenezer Hinkley (b. September 29, 1754 Barnstable, Massachusetts d. September 5, 1822, Barnstable, Massachusetts). Family history relates that Ebenezer, son of Ebenezer and Mehitable, was on payroll of Captain George Lewis in Colonel Nathaniel Freeman's regiment, on alarm from New Bedford, Dartmouth, and Falmouth, Massachusetts in September of 1778. Nathaniel and Ester had seven children.
