Portrait Miniature of Captain Charles March Bayley of Newburyport, Massachusetts, c. 1840, the ship captain identified in ink inscription on backing cardboard and information provided by the consignor, watercolor on ivory, depicting the bearded figure wearing a black coat, vest, and cravat, with a tree on the right and a ship at sea in the background at left, 3 5/8 x 3 3/8 in., housed in a later giltwood frame. Condition: Vertical crack at right along tree trunk. The crack is about 2 1/4 in. lg.
