William Havell (English, 1782-1857), "Portrait of a Gentleman", oil on canvas, signed at lower left "W. HAVELL". A formal bust-length portrait of a nobleman in the English court, wearing a leather glove on his right hand, with rolling hills and an Italianate style estate in the distance. Verso with label "18 William Havell signed portrait of a noble. A most celebrated English artist (1782-1857), he made his debut at the Royal Academy in 1804. His works are in museums in London (Victoria and Albert), Manchester, Nottingham and Sheffield. See Benezit. 30 x 25", verso with additional label "Ref.
