The plaque is inscribed with a famous quote from Brazilian novelist and sports journalist Nelson Rodrigues: "A selação é a pátria de chuteiras." [The selection is the homeland of cleats]. The plaque honors Pelé for the 50th anniversary of Brazil's 1958 World Cup victory and for being named Athlete of the Century.
