“Purple and Pearls” English. Made circa 1790. Very fine and rare, 20K gold, enamel and pearl-set pocket watch with matching chatelaine, key and seal. Two-body, the bezels set with large split-pearls, narrow faceted band, the back with engine-turned decoration overlaid with translucent purple enamel. Chatelaine: decorated to match the watch, two glazed navette-shaped panels with hairwork decoration, two tassels, a key and a seal with hardstone matrix, gilt spoon. Gold, engine-turned and matte, polished Arabic numerals, outer dot minute markers, winding aperture at 2 o’clock. Gold “serpentine” hands. 30 mm., hinged, gilt full plate, cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, chased foliate cock, silver regulation disc. Diam. 41 mm. Notes The dial and hands of the present watch were updated to the fashionable look of the 1820s.
