Vaucher - Love Lost – Dumb Quarter-Repeating Watch Vaucher A Paris. Made circa 1780. Very fine, 20K gold, quarter-repeating à toc, grisaille painted on enamel pocket watch. Two-body, "Louis XVI", the back with en grisaille painted on enamel classical scene highlighted with gold paillons, translucent royal blue background over sunray engine-turning, gold paillon border, bezel decorated to match. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic numerals, winding aperture at 2. Gold beetle hands. 33 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock with polished steel endplate, silver regulation disc, repeating on the inside of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 42 mm. Notes Daniel Vaucher, made Master in 1767, is listed as working in Paris at Rue St. Pierre aux Boeufs from 1769-1790.
