Vauchez – Allegory of Chastity Vauchez A Paris. Made circa 1780. Fine, 18K gold and painted on enamel pocket watch. Double-body, Louis XVI, the bezels with chased and engraved leaf and berry decoration, the back with an oval painted on enamel depiction of Diana repelling Cupid’s arrows with a shield, Arcadian landscape with leaping stag and cupid in the foreground, royal blue guilloché enamel border with gold paillons and outer white enamel line border. White enamel with radial Arabic numerals,outer minute divisions with Arabic fifteen minutes. Gold beetle and poker hands. 47 mm., hinged, gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, chain fusée, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring and pierced and engraved continental cock. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 57 mm. Notes Daniel Vaucher, made Master in 1767, is listed as working in Paris at Rue St. Pierre aux Boeufs from 1769-1790.
