The Horse RaceAttributed to Longines, St-Imier, No. 1307054, made for the Indian market, circa 1902.Very fine 18K gold and painted on enamel diamond-set keyless pocket watch. Four-body, "bassine", back finely painted on enamel with a horse race scene, frame and borders elaborately set with diamonds to form scrolling, horse-shoe and flowers, the whole on a translucent dark blue enamel background, band and bezel en suite, gold hinged cuvette. White enamel, upright Arabic numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary sunk seconds. Gold "Louis XV" hands. Notes The watch employs the micrometric regulator patented by Ernest Francillon, the founder of Longines Watch Co. (Swiss patent No. 3884, registered August 31, 1891). Longines was also one of the first Swiss companies to use a safety pinion, a device preventing damage to the movement if the mainspring breaks.
