Adoration of the MagiS(amue)l Ruel, Rotterdam, No. 464, circa 1770.Fine and rare 18K gold pair-cased chatelaine watch with date and false pendulum. Outer: two-body, repoussé with a scene depicting the Adoration of the Magi, the bezel repoussé with rocailles. Inner: two-body, "bassine", gold chatelaine with three panels, the top one repoussé with Mars, Venus and Cupid, the middle one with a Cupid and a lion, and the bottom one with conquered lion, two chains on the sides for a key and a seal. Gold, champlevé Roman numerals, outer arched minute ring with five-minute Arabic markers on polished cartouches, the center chased with a Cupid ad a tree with date aperture below. Gold "Louis XV" hands. 34,9 mm, hinged, gilt full plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement plain brass balance with flat balance-spring, continental cock chased with a Cupid holding geometrical instruments with aperture for the false pendulum.Signed on dial and movement.Diam. 48 mm.
