Egyptian Revival 18kt Gold Ancient Scarab Brooch, Castellani, set with an ancient steatite scarab, wings with applied wirework designs, lg. 3 in., reverse with maker's mark on each wing. Note: For an example of a similar scarab brooch by Castellani in enamel, see Castellani and Giuliano: Revivallist Jewelers of the Nineteenth Century, fig. 125. Castellani Scarab one small loss to the applied wirework to the left of the scarab on top part of the wing, it was not obtrusive some tarnish to front and reverse the scarab is carved throughout, probably dates from 800BC or so possibly Amazonite, low quality
