Mellin aux Blackfriers, London, circa 1625. Fine and rare silver and gilt metal single-hand oval watch. Oval, gilded, silver applied hour ring with radial Roman chapters and half-hour markers, borders engraved with an elderly man at the top, two winged heads at the bottom and scrolling foliage in between, the centre with a figure reaching for a fruit and a cupid holding an arrow. Blued-steel facetedhand. 36 x 29 mm., hinged, oval, gilt brass full plate, turned vase pillars, fusee and gut line, short four-wheel train with five-wheel pinions, verge escapement, brass three-arm circular foliot, elongated gilded pinned cock pierced and engraved with asymmetrical scrolling foliage, wheel and click set-up with gilded bridge decorated in the same manner as the cock.Signed on the back plate.Dim. 58 x 36 mm.
