Louis Duchêne & Fils (Geneva), No. 9471, circa 1800.Fine and unusual 18 ct. gold, oval quarter repeating partly skeletonised watch with visible balance. Oval Directoire, polished. Hinged gilt brass cuvette. Small eccentric white enamel chapter ring with Breguet numerals. Blued steel hands. Gold dial plate chased with a Cupid playing with birds, balance aperture below the dial. Oval gilt brass, inverted Lepine calibre with free standing barrel, gold wheel train, cylinder escapement, visible plain five-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant with visible polished repeating work. Signed on the cuvette. In very good condition. Dim. 75 x 53 mm. Notes Oval watches are extremely rare, even more so when made with a shaped movement. Very unusual calibre of high quality, drawn from that invented by Lepine as early as 1775, with free standing barrel, partly skeletonised with polished steel bridges, event the gongs are of especially high quality, being partly blued.
