George III Silver Sugar Basket and a Pair of Sugar Tongs, the basket London, 1795, Peter and Ann Bateman, makers, boat shaped, with reeded rims and swing handle, on shaped ovoid foot, engraved with leaftip, wrigglework, foliate swags, and a crest, ht. 4 1/2, and a pair of sugar tongs, c. 1780s, George Smith, maker, bright cut linework and oval nips, lg. 5 3/4 in., approx. 8 troy oz. basket with light ding to base rim making it not sit quite flat, otherwise good. marks good. tongs bearing lion passant and maker's mark only. both with very minor age wear.
