Attributed to Samuel Henry Alken [called Henry Alken, Jr. ] (British, 1810-1894) Wild Dayrell, Winner of the Derby , 1855 Signed "H. Alken" l.l., identified on labels from Vicars Brothers, London, and with labels from Kennedy Galleries, Inc., New York, affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvas, 12 x 20 in. (30.5 x 50.8 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure, retouch, varnish inconsistencies. Fine craquelure, strip lined on right and left tacking margins, light washes of older retouch to sky area with the largest area approx. 2 1/2 x 9 in. to the sky behind the jockey, scattered dots of older retouch to l.l. quadrant in grass area.
