Eliot Enneking" l.l., identified on exhibition labels from the Rockport Art Association and from North Shore Arts Exhibition of Gloucester on the reverse. Oil on canvasboard, 7 15/16 x 10 in. (20.2 x 25.4 cm), framed (under glass). Condition: Slight bowing to the support, surface grime. Exhibitions: Rockport Art Association, "The Old Tavern Exhibition," n.d.; North Shore Arts Exhibition of Gloucester, Eighteenth Annual Exhibition, 1940. There are two printed exhibition labels on the reverse. The first is from "ROCKPORT ART ASSOCIATION/ The Old Tavern EXHIBITION" and is inscribed in ink with the following "Artist: J. Eliot Enneking/Title: Gray Day/Return Address: 43 Broadway/Rockport, Mass./Price: /Medium: Oil." The second label is from "NORTH SHORE ARTS EXHIBITION/OF GLOUCESTER/EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL EXHIBITION/1940" and is inscribed in ink with the following "Title: Gray Day/Artist: J. Eliot Enneking./Price: $45.00/Return Address: 54 Dwight St./Brookline, Mass." The paper backing of the canvasboard has acid burn and staining.
