John Watson Gordon (Scottish, 1788-1864) Portrait of Miss Elizabeth Mack, also known as Mrs. Thomas Henderson of Press Castle, Edinburgh Signed or inscribed "Mrs. Thomas Henderson/ Painted by Watson Gordon Edinburgh" and identified on a label on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 50 1/4 x 40 1/4 in. (127.6 x 102.2 cm), in a period frame. Condition: Retouch, surface grime, canvas deformations, craquelure. Very minor retouch, probably to fill craquelure, in bonnet, neck and torso of the figure. Craquelure throughout. Varnish inconsistencies. The stretcher does not have a cross bar to stabilize it.
