22kt Greek Gold "Draped Clothe" Necklace, Ilias Lalaounis, the hinged form composed of links resembling textile folds, 139. 2 dwt, lg. 16 in., signed. Note: This lot and lot 562 form part of Lalaounis' "Water Drops" collection. Lalaounis recalled that, "My mind went back to classical antiquity and took inspiration from the stance, the movement, and above all the folds in the robes of ancient Greek statuary." The necklace, which the Lalaounis Museum has stated was extremely limited in production, is pictured in Metamorphoses , by Ilias Lalaounis, p. 308. This necklace and lots 562-566 were purchased from Lalaounis by the consignor's relatives during their residence in Athens in the 1970s.
