Merrimac Pottery Arts & Crafts Movement Vase Art pottery Newburyport, Massachusetts, 1897-1908, paper label 1900-01 Bulbous mouth on cylindrical neck to bulbous base in textured blue-green glaze, with paper Merrimac Ceramic Company label with a fish, original price $1. 25, ht. 6 7/8 in. Note: T.S. Nickerson made art pottery for Merrimac; he had studied glazes and colors under Sir William Cooke in London. Merrimac is one of those great art potteries from the Arts & Crafts movement that is distinguished by the color and texture of their glazes. Often collected by potters for its unique characteristics and because the pottery closed and its remaining stock, along with the building, burned in 1908.
