John Whorf (American, 1903-1959) A Big Catch Signed "John Whorf. " l.l., faintly signed "Whorf" l.r. Watercolor on paper, sight size 15 x 21 3/4 in. (38.1 x 55.2 cm), framed. Condition: Tack holes to corners, minor toning. Sheet size 15 3/8 x 22 1/2 inches (39.0 x 57.0 cm). Inscribed "Salmon Water" and numbered "4" and "#14275" in pencil on the reverse. Scatted tack holes along the outer edges. Gently light struck in lower left corner. Formerly matted to window mat with brown paper paper (sheet now detached from window), with paper tape and masking tape remnants across upper edge, and with paper tape remnants on the lower sides. Crease across u.r. corner, 3 inches, with a subtle break to the paint surface. Crease to u.r. corner visible on the reverse, with a small, 1/4-inch tear to u.r. corner. Reverse with nicks, wear, and soiling to the edges.
