Bernhard Buttersack (German, 1858-1925) Willows at Twilight Signed and dated "Buttersack 94" l. r., inscribed "Bought Dresden 1895 by Mrs. Longyear/gift Longyear estate 6-6-51" in pencil and identified on a label affixed to the paper backing. Oil on paperboard, 19 3/4 x 14 1/4 in. (50.2 x 36.2 cm), framed. Condition: Minor warping, surface grime, craquelure. Provenance: Ex-collection Mrs. John Munro Longyear [Mary Hawley Beecher]; A Midwestern library. The curve to the support is very minor. The work might benefit from cleaning. There are several tiny losses near the upper edge, though the surface is stable at present.
