Gustav Klimt (Austrian, 1862-1918) Portrait of a Walking Female Nude, c. 1906 Inscribed "Nachlass meines Bruders Gustav/Hermine Klimt" in ink l.r. Graphite on paper, sheet size 21 3/4 x 13 3/4 in. (55.2 x 34.9 cm), framed. Condition: Taped to window mat, minor toning. Provenance: Nachlass Bestätigung Hermine Klimt; private Midwest collection; by family descent to the present owners. N.B. The present work is one of a series of Schreitenden [walking women] drawn by Klimt in preparation for the Stoclet Palace frieze, which is comprised of different models. This particular long-haired model closely relates to one documented in Alice Strobl's catalogue raisonne as no. 1540. We wish to thank Dr. Marian Bisanz-Prakken of the Albertina Museum for her assistance cataloguing the lot; the work will be included in her forthcoming supplement volume to Strobl's catalogue raisonné of Klimt's drawings. Minor staining to edges verso, subtle creases to l.l. corner; minor staining l.c. and to figure's torso measuring less than 1/4 x 1/8 in.; minor acid burn to u.l. and u.r. corners.
