Mahogany Tall Clock by William Cummens, Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1795, the fret top case with glazed hood door over the painted iron dial signed in Gothic script, Wm. Cummens , Roman numerals, gilt spandrels and a romantic scene of a young couple in the arch, tombstone-shaped waist door for access to components all on ogee bracket feet, eight-day time and strike movement with two lead weights, wooden pendulum rod and brass-faced brass bob, ht. 95 in. A pristine example with old surface, untouched dial, all original hands, brass finials, pendulum and weights by an early, important and well documented apprentice of Simon Willard.
