Federal Mahogany Inlaid Serpentine Bureau, possibly Charleston, South Carolina, late 18th century, refinished, (imperfections and minor restoration), ht. 39, case wd. 44, dp. 22 1/2 in. sunbleached to top and one side and front, patching to various elements of piece, including small areas of top and top molding, small parts of the bracket feet and tips of a spur, small patch to edge of one glue block, old locks are gone, brasses and escutcheons appear original. southern details (best guesses at secondary woods - not tested): inked inlay detail, yellow pine dustboards bottom boards and backboards, cedar drawer backs, cypress drawer sides, walnut drawer bottoms massive laminated glueblocks, inlaid feet, canted corners with urn inlay
