Large Incised and Cobalt-decorated Stoneware Jar with Birds and Owl, possibly New York area, early 19th century, large bulbous ovoid form, with lug handles, one side ornamented with a pair of exotic birds perched on leafy branches, the other side depicting an owl perched on a branch, each design incised and highlighted with cobalt blue, the handles with incised terminals and also daubed with cobalt, (repaired crack around bulbous area, loss), ht. 14 1/2, dia. 14 in. the crack extends around the entire vessel, and spiders in a couple places, 3/4 x 1/2 in. loss on lower side about 2 in. from base edge, also there's about a 3/4 x 1/2 in. base edge chip.
