Pair of Wood Nio Guardian Figures, Japan, 19th century, finely executed carvings, each with inlaid glass eyes, both stand on rocky formations and hold a vajara , incised inscription on the back, the stands depicting a reserve with low relief waves, ht. 12 1/4 in. one of the figures is missing half of the vajara in his hand; a small chip to one of the finger tips, glued back together.
