Glenn B. Chamberlain (American, 1914-2001) Standing Couple Signed "W. CHAMBERLAIN" on the base l.l. Carved wood, height 18 7/8 in. (48.0 cm), on a rectangular integral base mounted to a wooden plinth. Condition: Areas of wear, dust and dirt to interstices. N.B. Fresh out of high school, Glenn Chamberlain attended the first session of the Stone City Art Colony and School in Iowa where he pursued painting and sculpture with Grant Wood and Adrian Dornbush as his mentors. He participated in the WPAP, and his painting Country Road was selected by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1934 to be displayed at the White House. In 1935 he accepted a scholarship to the Minneapolis School of Art, which he followed with study at the Art Students League in New York, and, after WWII, with a year spent in France studying with the sculptor Ossip Zadkine (French/Russian, 1890-1967). Interim teaching positions at Hunter College, Bard College, and Cranbrook Academy led to his appointment to the faculty at Colorado University in 1957, where he taught until his retirement in 1982. With a rectangular self base measuring 5 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches. Screw mounted to plinth, no additional condition issues to report.
