Philadelphia or Baltimore Chippendale walnut high chest, ca. 1765 , the upper section with a broken arch bonnet and flame finials, above a shell carved drawer resting on a base with shell carved cabriole legs and ball and claw feet, 92 1/2" h., 39 1/4" w. Illustrated in Baltimore Furniture 1760-1810 , fig. 125. Provenance: Descended in the family of Hugh Birckhead (1788-1853), a resident of Baltimore.
