Sold for:
$2,460

Large Round Copper Measure, Probably Massachusetts, late 18th century, with strap handles and stamped marks on rim: "C M" for Commonwealth of Massachusetts and an arrow, the English symbol of accuracy, (imperfections), dia. 14 1/4, ht. 7 1/2 in. Note: This measure, along with lot 73 in this sale, was pictured in the August 2008 issue of New England Journal of Antiques, where its strong marks and exemplary dovetail joint were pointed out in the caption. The text explained that the marks indicated the measure had passed inspection and was certified for official use in the colony of Massachusetts.
