Conrad Karner Ivory Diptych Sundial, Nuremberg, 17th century, foliate decorated outer case with wind rose numbered 1-32, internal compass aperture, and viewing hole, inner face with a carved village scene above the twenty-four towns with their latitudes, and string gnomon, the inner face with time scale graduated 4-12, 1-8 around a glazed sunk compass with horn maker's mark, and Babylonian and Italian hours, marked Conrad Karner , back side with multiple circular scales, dual 1-12 hours, lunar days 1-29, engraved brass pointer, double horn maker's marks, and engraved in conjunction with the outer scale Epacta Iviani Anno 1619 , inner scale Epacta Creori Anno , foliate decorated spandrels, four brass nail-head feet, and a hinged brass cover on the side for the wind vane, wd. 2 1/2, dp. 3 5/8, ht. 9/16 in.
