First American edition, octavo, with Audubon's prospectus for The Birds of America at the end, including an early subscriber list; ex library copy, in contemporary half red morocco, cloth boards, worn, printed on inferior paper, as usual, 9 3/4 x 6 in. Audubon published the text for The Birds of America in this country to secure the U.S. copyright for the material.
