Malvina Hoffman (American, 1885-1966) Brotherhood of Man /Bronze Medal of the Society of Medalists , 51st issue, 1955. Initialed and marked "The Society of Medalists For issue May 1955 Malvina Hoffman sc." on edge, made by Medallic Art Company, New York. Bronze with dark brown patina, diameter 2 7/8 in., in original box with pamphlet. Condition: Good. N.B. In 1955 at the time that this medal was issued, the artist stated, "The thought prompting the design and quotations of this medal is the ever timely problem: how the races of the word can learn to understand one another." The reverse shows a map of the continents encircled by the quote from John Donne, "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent..."
