printed in color by Letterio Calapai after the original ink brush sketch by Rockwell Kent, from the book initialled ("L. C.") and dated (lower right). According to the accompanying letter from the Calapai Studio, Calapai transferred the five colors (indicated in the accompanying swatch) from stencils and linoleum blocks and then used Kent's metal linecut as the matrix, or key plate, for the black.
