A navy blue nylon test pilot jacket owned by Steve McQueen. The Alpha Industries jacket has an American flag patch, a B1 test team patch, and a circular B1 patch, a zip pocket to the left sleeve, stitch remnants from a removed rectangular patch to the left chest, shoulder marks, and ribbed knit cuffs, collar, and waistband. A label reads "jacket, flying man's light zonetype L-2B." Size Large is marked out and "Med" is written. This jacket was gifted to McQueen and signed on the orange textured interior "To my Hero Steve 'Doug' Benefield B1 Test Pilot" by test pilot and flight commander Tommie "Doug" Benefield, who died tragically when his B1 crashed during a test flight near Edwards Air Force Base on August 29, 1984. McQueen developed many friendships with pilots and crew while residing in a hangar at Santa Paula Airport. Categories:
