A set of correspondence regarding a "lost" California state refund check from 1946 that begins in 1964 and ends with the deposit of the refund in 1964. Interesting points within the correspondence: Greta Garbo had a tenacity to follow an issue through to the end and felt the right thing should be done. She would not passively be taken advantage of. Also interesting is that much of the correspondence is between George Schlee's secretary and Garbo's accountant, W.J. Plischke. In the course of the correspondence, Schlee passed away. At issue with the check was that it was found in storage and never cashed. The check was a refund in the amount of $164.87 from Garbo's 1944 taxes and issued in 1946. Included are letters, copies of letters, documents, and copies of documents surrounding this issue, including the final receipt for the deposit of the check on October 26, 1965. Largest, 11 by 8 1/2 inches Categories: Greta Garbo
