A group of three books from Greta Garbo's library: John Vandercook's Empress of the Dusk (NY: Reynal & Hitchcock, 1940), Vita Sackville-West's Saint Joan of Arc (NY: Doubleday, 1936), and Louis Verneuil's The Fabulous Life of Sarah Bernhardt (NY: Harper, 1942). Each marked "G.G." in Garbo's hand. These books represent characters Garbo was researching for roles. She tried for many years to get a film made of Joan of Arc.
