A pair of baseballs signed on-site during the 1978 World Series. The first ball is a Rawlings Official American League Baseball (MacPhail) used in batting and/or fielding practice during the 1978 series and signed by eight members of the New York Yankees including Bucky Dent (inscribed "To Matt" [obtainer Whalen Monica's grandson]), Lou Piniella, Mickey Rivers, Graig Nettles, Reggie Jackson, Chris Chambliss, and manager Bob Lemon. The second ball is a Rawlings Official American League Baseball (MacPhail) used in batting and/or fielding practice and signed on-site at the 1978 World Series by eight members of the Los Angeles Dodgers including Davey Lopes (inscribed "To Matty, Best Wishes), Ron Cey, Steve Garvey, Bill Russell, Reggie Smith, and manager Tommy Lasorda. A rematch of the 1977 World Series, the Dodgers again lost to the Yankees. Yankee Bucky Dent was named the series' Most Valuable Player. Accompanied by a 1978 World Series Working Press, Radio, TV, Photographer pass for Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, issued directly to Whalen Monica, the obtainer of the signatures.
