A handwritten double sided single page, letter postmarked December 1977, with original transmittal envelope. The letter on letterhead with Astaire's Beverly Hills address reads in part, "Dear Jim, I was delighted to hear from you. Sure are sorry about that ailment you mentioned...Thank you for taking the time to tell me you enjoyed Ent. II. [reference: That's Entertainment Part II 1976 special] Kelly and I had some fun...I'm now on a special with Helen Hayes for N.B.C. [reference: A Family Upside Down 1978] and you know there "ain't no" flying hoofs in that one. Its a nice gentle story and of course she's a grand lady & artist. I don't want to do many more Jim, only a couple of years maybe if I can't resist them. Again thanks for your letter and I hope we'll meet again soon. As ever - Fred." 8 by 6 inches PROVENANCE: Lot 595, William Doyle Galleries, Property From The Estate Of James Cagney, September 30, 1992. Categories: James Cagney
