In 1979, he launched the comic strip Eyebeam, described by the Village Voice as “the best comic strip you never heard of.” Eyebeam was a daily comic strip through most of the 1980s, and ran in the Austin American Statesman and other papers around the country. Eyebeam was reproduced in seven books, several of which are now collectible. Sam created the maps, icons, and animation for the Austin Past and Present project. His original artwork can be found at Avenue Gallery on South Congress Avenue. "Finally, a guitar my size!"
