A wrestler’s tutu costume worn by Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio in the classic television show Laverne & Shirley (Paramount Television, 1976-1983). The costume consists of a red leotard with purple tulle trim at the hips and armholes, with Laverne’s signature “L” sewn onto the breast. Marshall wore the costume in the episode “Tag Team Wrestling” (Season 3, Episode 2) when Laverne and her best friend, Shirley Feeney (played by Cindy Williams) face off against two professional female wrestlers in the ring with hilarious results. Laverne & Shirley was nominated for six Golden Globes over the course of its seven-year run, and costume designer Al Lehman received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Costume Design for a Series in 1979.
