19th Century American Clerk's Desk 19th century American clerk's desk with slanted fold-over top, and lower storage drawer with hand-cut dovetails, sitting atop hand chamfered legs; the antique pine desk has a rich patina and shows signs of distressed paint on the back two legs; pencil signed inside top cabinet "Clarence Smith Williamstown July 18 1873"; measures approximately 38-1/2" tall, 36" wide, and 21" deep. Clarence Smith was clerk and a member on the board of investment at the Williamstown Savings Bank of Massachusetts in the late 19th century. Smith would later act as the treasurer of the bank and serve on the board of trustees.
