Rare pair of New England painted rectangular dresser boxes, mid 19th c. , with fitted interiors, both with fruit decorated lids and berry wreath borders, the front of one with an oval landscape with a couple picking apples, the second with two stags and a man fishing in the background, one inscribed inside the lid Asahel W. Wheelock presented by his mother , 5 1/4" h., 10 3/4" w., 6 1/2" d. Asahel W. Wheelock, 1827-1856, lived in Watertown, Massachusetts. Provenance: Nimmo & Hart, Philadelphia, 1976.
